Re: 91 Mercury 135 hp Blackmax The V-6 you have is a 90-1/2 version and was made until 1992. Gatan pips manualidades. There was a version change in 1992 but the 9675 block was still used until at least 1996 so the majority of the parts interchange. Some of them until 2000 and lots them from before 90 fit also.

You do have to be careful when you buy used parts but they are plentiful and reasonable. The carbed 135/150/175 were all 2.0L engines except for some special edition engines and the 150 and above EFI engines which were 2.5L. The 2.4 L engine was a special editon called the Bridgeport. You have a great engine but I advise you to remove the advance module if it is still equipped and convert it to pre-mix because of it's age. If the oil pump goes and locks up you're looking at a complete teardown.

Not that hard but senseless when the preventive measures are so simple. They were 2.4 200 chrome bore blocks, vertical front, different tuner, till about late 80's when they changed ta steel and went ta horizontal fronts in '89, '90 and '91.

'91 being a 'fat' block 2.4. Tha BP along with an oval port block (unpainted 200 chrome bore) came in both a 2.4 and 2.0 motor from tha HiPerf divison so long ago I can't remember when they first came out. Maybe '79 or '80.

Our customer came in and said that his motor had been running better than it ever had, then it just started loosing power. My gut feeling was to ask him if his oil injection system was still being used. When he said it was, I had a premonition of where we were going. I popped the cowling off to do a compression check, and saw oil at the bottom of the motor cowling just below the oil injection pump. Also at that point it was quite obvious what had happened. The oil line from the oil pump to the oil injection point was brittle and broke.

Now the oil that was to be injected into the fuel line was just dumping inside the motor. No alarms went off since the oiler still thought it was doing its' job! Checking compression two of the cylinder were below 10 PSI. His loss of power was from the engine starting to lock up. Sorry to say, but this motor will shortly become a donor motor.
